Tuition, room and board total for the four week intensive is $3,490 and must be paid in full by May 7, 2010. Enrollment for the 2010 intensive will be limited to 100 dancers ages 12 - 21. Daily schedule includes 3 to 5 classes and rehearsals per day, 6 days a week.
Dancers register and move in on June 19 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. During registration dancers are checked into the University of Michigan-Flint dorms adjacent to our campus and the campus buildings used during the intensive are open for touring. Dancers, parents, families and Intensive staff gather for orientation at the Flint Institute of Music followed by a complimentary pizza and salad get together at 4:00 p.m. Dancers return to the dorms for floor meetings and a tour of the University campus buildings used during the intensive.
Sunday, June 20 is placement class day. Dancers eat brunch at the Residence Hall and then walk to The Whiting for placement classes. All classes and rehearsals are required and classes begin the morning of the 21st. Dancers walk to and from the Residence Hall and classes each day accompanied by Intensive staff members.
Staff and faculty live in the dorms with the dancers. Hall suites house four dancers and include two double or four single bedrooms, a living room area with a television, a kitchen/dining area with a stove and refrigerator and two bathrooms. Each bedroom is furnished with a twin bed, desk and armoire. Linens are provided and laundry facilities are available on each floor. Meals are provided each day at the University Center or Sarvis Conference Center.
Our culminating performances this year are at 2:00 and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 17. Every dancer performs in both shows. Parents and others are encouraged to make hotel reservations early if staying in Flint on performance weekend.
Scholarships are awarded on a merit-only basis and are decided by John Magnus at audition. Financial aid is not available. We suggest you contact your local Rotary, Arts Council, mayor’s office, library or dance studio for scholarship information or applications available in your area.
